SEPTEMBER 11 – 14, 2014
The Desmond Hotel & Conference Center
660 Albany-Shaker Road
Albany, NY 12211
Welcome to the MAR Conference, 2014! It is our hope that you will join us for a weekend
of fun, sisterhood and learning. Our special guests will be GFWC International President, Babs
Condon, and GFWC President-elect, Sheila Shea. There will be entertainment, a hula hoop
contest, and new ideas to bring home.
The Desmond Hotel & Conference Center is a beautiful facility, built to look like a
Colonial Village, with sleeping rooms surrounding beautiful courtyards. There are only two
Desmond Hotels in the country, one in Albany and one in Philadelphia, so this is not your usual
chain hotel. The hotel prides itself on its service and style. Minutes off of I87 North, or 90, you
will be delighted with the grace and charm of the facility.
The Desmond is an entirely smoke-free facility. Each double room has two queen-sized
beds and each single has a king-sized bed. The hotel has complimentary Wi-Fi, an indoor pool
with Jacuzzi, a fitness center, a 24-hour business center and courtesy shuttle service within a
three-mile radius, which includes the airport and the Colonia Center Mall.
The rooms are $129.00 per night plus 14% taxes.
Room reservations for the Middle Atlantic Region Conference will be accepted until
August 28th. While this is only two weeks before the beginning of the conference, it will be
before our clubs meet in the Fall, so it is important that this information be given to as many club
members as possible, as early as possible.
To reserve your room, call the hotel directly at 1-518-869-8100 or (toll free) 800-448-
3500. Identify yourself as a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Middle Atlantic
Region. The group ID# is 1255A5. Please use that number when making reservations.
Check-in begins at 4:00 pm and check-out is at noon.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Deen Meloro, 2014-2016 MAR President
Kathy Canzano, Conference Chairman
Rosemary Brown, New York State President
New York Members: If your club is tax-exempt in New York, you must make that clear when
