GFWC MIDDLE ATLANTIC REGION SHOE INSTALLATION
Thursday, June 7, 2012 MAR Region Banquet/Meeting
GFWC International Convention, Charlotte, NC
Installing Officer: Jacquelyn Pierce, 2006-2008 GFWC International President
We have gathered this evening to observe the ending of one administration and the beginning of a new....to celebrate those who have served us in the past....in whose shoes we now are attempting to fill...and those who will be serving us in the future....whose shoes will leave their own unique footprints.
It is most fitting that shoes will be the theme for this installation as they are so symbolic of womanhood.
The tongue of the shoe....reminds us that we can encourage, inspire and empower others with our tongue...."and oh, dear God, let us forget not to be kind."
The heal of the shoe....reminds us that there will always be challenges and frustrations. However, we know that the heel is the toughest part of the shoe (much like the heel on a loaf of bread) and so we, too, will toughen up to endure and survive such times and think of them as opportunities...."let us be large in thought, word and deed."
And the sole of the shoe....reminds us that we are as one....though our appearances, accessories and attributes may differ....our souls are alike...."It is the little things that create differences, in the big things of life we are as one."
Elaine Ko-Talmadge (President 2010-2012) as the 2010-2012 GFWC Middle Atlantic Region President you have served this organization and its membership with poise, dedication and distinction. Surely no one deserves a bit of "R and R" more than you....and to assist you in this endeavor we present you with this pillow upon which to rest and relax.
Will those who joined Elaine in leadership positions on the 2010-2012 GFWC MAR Board of Directors please stand at this time so that we may convey our appreciation. Thank you....Applause.
And now those who have been elected to office and are "stepping up" to leadership positions for the 2012-2014 administration please "step forward."
Secretary.... Dr. Dana Charles Clark
Vice President....Deen Meloro
President....Patricia Ann Rodriguez
Linda, the footnote for you is: "Shoes, like buildings, have a mysterious chemistry of proportion."
Likewise your responsibilities as Region Treasurer will be to take the mystery out of the region's finances by keeping the financial records in order, to make prudent fiscal recommendations and to keep the membership informed, through your reports, on the finances of the region.
Your shoe is black in color....symbolizing that as treasurer you will "keep the financial records in the black."
Linda....do you pledge to uphold the duties of Region Treasurer as specified in the GFWC MAR Bylaws and to serve this region and its members to the best of your ability? If so, please respond, I do.
I hereby install you as GFWC MAR Treasurer.
Secretary....Dana Charles Clark
Dana, the footnote for you is "Put on your red shoes and dance to the tune."
Likewise your responsibilities as Region Secretary will be to record the activities of the organization...a recording which, in time, will become the club history. The need for accuracy and punctuality is required of a secretary which will enable you to write the "tune" administration.
Your shoe is red in color....symbolizing that the minutes you record will be "read" for years to come.
Dana, do you pledge to uphold the duties of Region Secretary as specified in the GFWC MAR Bylaws and to serve this region and its members to the bests of your ability? If so, please respond, I do.
I hereby install you as GFWC MAR Secretary.
Deen, the footnote for you is: "Shoes require a balance between one's right and one's left foot and are to be worn with pride and privilege."
Likewise, your responsibilities as Region Vice-President will be to serve this administration with the loyalty of your right foot while planning for the future administration with the tactfulness of your left foot. You will be charged with the challenge of making others realize that there is pride and privilege in becoming a member of this great region.
Your shoe is blue in color...symbolizing the loyalty that you will give to this and future administrations as you remain "true blue" to the region.
Deen....do you pledge to uphold the duties of Region Vice President as specified in the GFWC MAR Bylaws and to serve this region and its members to the best of your ability? If so, please respond, I do.
I hereby install you as GFWC MAR Vice President.
President Patricia Ann Rodriguez, Trish
Trish, there are several footnotes for you. One being "High-heels literally put women on a pedestal."
You have been elected to the highest position that the members of this region can give a fellow member....the position of President. However, to be a great leader you will not remain on this pedestal but will serve you membership,,,,step by step, shoulder to shoulder, and side by side.
Another footnote: "Dancing in step takes talent. Marching in step takes discipline. And getting people to work "in step" takes leadership.
Likewise, your responsibilities as GFWC MAR Region President will involve that of talent, discipline, and leadership.
And the last footnote, "Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but she did it backwards and in high heels."
Likewise, you set the example for the steps that your members will follow....which will take hard work and much effort....but which will bring you rich rewards and a deep sense of accomplishment.
Your shoe is floral in design symbolizing that you have now blossomed and will continue to do so in your service as President. Trish....do you pledge to uphold the duties of Region President as outlined in the GFWC MAR Bylaws and to serve this region and its members to the best of your ability? If so, please respond, I do.
I hereby install you as GFWC MAR President.
At this time we would ask that the membership please stand. Now would you please put your best foot forward. And pledge to support the leaders of the GFWC Middle Atlantic Region and to work "in step" with one another to the betterment of this great organization. You may be seated.
Elaine and Trish will please step forward for the exchanging of the pin....joined by the past GFWC MAR Regions Presidents who are with us this evening...Jane Lee Nosal, Dorothy Green, Grace Arles, Carolyn Selders.
To you, the Past Presidents, we remain ever grateful for your continued guidance and support As each of you have worn this region president's pin with outstanding service, we would ask that you now join in this pinning ceremony...beginning with Jane Lee, who will pass the pin to Dot...who will pass the pin to Grace...who will pass the pin to Carolyn...who will pass the pin to Elaine...for the "pinning of the pin" for the newly elected and installed President Trish.
Thank you and continued best wishes to all.
By popular request and by permission of International President 2006-2008 Jacquelyn Pierce.
